Speak up against corruption!

GRAFT AND CORRUPTION: IMPLEMENTATION OF HEAVIER PUNISHMENT AGAINST DISHONESTY AND BRIBERY When money talks, everybody either shuts their mouth or opens it. It has been apparent to all of us that money plays an important role in our lives. Without it, one cannot simply live nor have a decent life. It is one of the crucial aspects of our lives that clothes us with dignity and pride. Money greatly shapes our lifestyles and even the trends of the society we live. I could say that the world revolves around money and humans evolve because of the influence of it. Whether we like it or not, in this millennium, money is vital to make everything move in this world . Meanwhile, as we acknowledge money as an integral part of our lives, it has also been the cause of greed among us. Though we have been told at school that we should be men for others, money is just something that others could not simply resist. It has become the fuel of greed and dishonesty. It derailed our values system...

The War On Drugs

REINFORCEMENT OF DEPED IN ELIMINATING ILLEGAL DRUG PROBLEM IN THE PHILIPPINES Since the term of President Duterte in 2016, there has been a huge movement towards the statistics on heinous crimes committed by law violators. Large-scale illegal drug businesses and operations have been shut down and drug personalities are locked up in jails for good. We can hear and read about the president boast about the government’s winning fight against illegal drugs on the News. Also, the drug abuse awareness campaign has been so loud in the social media these past few years since the advent of Facebook. So what else could the government do to hasten the solutions on the impending problems about the issue? Here comes the role of DepEd on the matter, I believe it plays an important role as a catalyst of change specifically towards the young population. I think the agency is a good platform to educate people about the problem. I would site conducting of symposiums and the inclusion o...

Sick And Tired Of The Stigma

HIV/AIDS AWARENESS: THE STIGMA BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT AND THE YOUTHS As what we could see on the TV, soap operas and adult-themed shows have been an influence among the teens and the young adults in this generation. The talks and ideas about romance have been common to the teenagers these days. Regardless of age, a lot of youths today entered into premarital sex. I personally believe that media contributes a greater piece of the portion of shaping the minds of our youths with regards to the matter.   So what could the government possibly do about this? With the years passed, HIV and AIDS cases grow and if left unchecked, this could become a major problem in the country. Nevertheless, the government is doing something to cut down the growing statistics of HIV and AIDS cases in the Philippines. I find it helpful that there are certain agencies that raise the awareness of the issue to the young population. However, I do think that though sex education is a delicate and ...

Gender Biased Country

GENDER INEQUALITY:  THE PRESENCE OF SEXISM IN THE PHILIPPINES As what we could see on TV, sexism is prevalent in this country. This is the discrimination based on sex or gender or the belief that men are superior to women and thus discrimination is justified. Despite numerous women movements, gender inequality is a hard topic to discuss. I would site some example when women get pregnant and file a maternity leave, some companies deduct a percentage that depends on their year of service, thus reducing their retirement pay. On the other hand, men who file paternal leaves do not get the same deduction. I find this as a huge struggle for the women especially those who are considered as single mothers in our society. Another related example can be noticed in work industries. Female workers who were hired in the mid of 1990s have compulsory resigned at the age of 55 while their male counterparts can still work until the age of 60. As we enter the new millennium and i...

LGBTQ Who?

I wanna give a piece of my mind so.. PHILIPPINES HAS LOW TOLERANCE TOWARDS LGBT GROUPS   One of the major gender problems in the country is homosexuality. A country whose predominant religion is Roman Catholic, being a gay is like a cardinal sin in the eyes of the "believers" and "religious scholars." Despite this, the country has been ranked as the 10th most gay-friendly nations in the world on a global survey covering 39 countries. However, the Catholic church still has its strong opposition to gay marriage or same-sex civil unions. In the Philippine society, marriage is a holy sacrament as it is defined in the Bible. It should be exclusive between two opposite sexes. Marrying someone with the same sex is considered as a taboo or unacceptable and at the same time an insult to the doctrine of the church. I find this sad considering that we are in a democratic country. Freedom of expression should be celebrated and I believe it also includes i...
